In the early morning hours of August 28, 2023, Sha’Darrian Jacobs, a 33-year-old Black male, was working as a security guard at a parking garage in Midtown Atlanta. While on his lunch break, his life was tragically cut short when a stray bullet struck him in the neck, killing him at the scene. The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. at a parking garage located on Spring Street.
The events leading to the fatal shooting began when a group of individuals were attempting to break into
vehicles. Someone confronted the suspected thieves, which prompted them to flee in a car. As they drove away, they fired multiple shots. Jacobs, who was not involved in the initial confrontation, was tragically struck by one of the bullets while he was eating.
The investigation into the senseless killing led to the arrests of two individuals. In November 2023, police apprehended 18-year-old Marion'Taye Holloman. He was arrested after being found at a gas station wearing a face mask and in possession of a Glock with a device that converted it to an automatic weapon. Holloman was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, among other charges. He is being held in the Fulton County Jail without bond.
A second arrest was made in October 2024, when a 17-year-old was taken into custody in connection with Jacobs' death. His name has not been released due to his age at the time of the crime. He faces charges including murder and aggravated assault. Police have indicated that they are searching for two additional suspects in the case. The family of Sha’Darrian Jacobs has been left devastated by their loss, remembering him as a hardworking man who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
