In the fall of 2016, the life of a young Savannah man was tragically cut short. On the morning of November 8th, 18-year-old Anthony Grant found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Near the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Pasadena Drive, shots rang out, and Grant was struck by gunfire. He was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he succumbed to them at the hospital.

Crimes detectives immediately launched an investigation into the shooting death of the young man. Their inquiries quickly led them to a person of interest, another teenager from the area. The police identified 19-year-old Trejan Javel Jones as the suspect in the fatal shooting. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and authorities began their search, describing Jones as a Black male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds, who was known to frequent the Southside of Savannah.
A few days following the incident, on November 11th, the search for the suspect came to a peaceful end. Trejan Jones turned himself in at the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Headquarters. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of Anthony Grant. Without incident, Jones was taken to the Chatham County Detention Center to await legal proceedings. The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public.
