In the small community of Fort Valley, Georgia, a heartbreaking incident unfolded, leaving neighbors and family in a state of shock and grief. Six-year-old Fiya Hollis, a young boy with a bright future, lost his life in what was described as a tragic accident. On a Monday evening, while at his home in the Indian Oaks Apartments, Fiya came across a handgun that his mother kept for protection.
At the time of the incident, the young boy was reportedly home with his two older siblings, aged 10 and 13. It is believed that while playing with the firearm, it discharged, inflicting a fatal gunshot wound to his torso. Emergency services were called to the scene around 7:55 p.m., and Fiya was quickly transported to Peach County Hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Fort Valley Police Department, along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, launched an investigation into the devastating event. Authorities interviewed family members and neighbors to piece together the circumstances leading to the shooting. While the investigation was ongoing, it was stated that Fiya's mother could potentially face charges of negligence in her son's death. The community mourned the loss of the young boy, remembered by those who knew him as a sweet and excellent kid who was often seen playing and riding his bike. The Peach County Division of Family and Children Services also initiated an investigation, which is standard procedure in the case of a child's death.
