In the early morning hours of June 11, 2017, a DeKalb County police officer on patrol made a grim discovery in the parking lot of Mark Trail Park in Decatur, Georgia. A man, later identified as 28-year-old Kenneth Adair from Louisville, Tennessee, was found lying face down in a pool of blood. The scene was unsettling, as Adair had no pants on, and they were not found nearby. Investigators at the scene located three 9mm shell casings, indicating the violent nature of his death.
His driver's license was found next to his body, allowing for his prompt identification.
As the investigation into the apparent murder began, police canvassed the area and came across another man sleeping on a bench approximately 50 yards from where Adair's body was discovered. This individual was taken in for questioning. While he was not charged in connection with the homicide, he was arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The details of what transpired in the park remained unclear as authorities worked to piece together the events leading to the fatal shooting.
Further investigation into the death of the male victim revealed that the motive for the killing was believed to be a robbery. According to warrants, Adair was shot twice in the head during a methamphetamine deal where $5,000 was stolen from him. The alleged shooter was identified as 26-year-old Sheldon Jones, who also went by the name Sheldon Ragland. Jones was subsequently arrested and charged with murder and armed robbery in connection with Adair's death. He was held in the county jail without bond following his arrest.
