In a quiet home in unincorporated Decatur, Georgia, the life of 57-year-old Timothy Felts was tragically cut short on a Sunday morning in April 2019. A verbal altercation escalated to fatal violence when Felts was shot and killed as he sat in a recliner. The man authorities say was responsible was Victor Lynn Parson, the 29-year-old son of Felts' fiancée.
The tragic event unfolded around 7 a.m. at a residence on Flat Shoals Parkway.
Parson's mother, Mary Jean, reported hearing several gunshots from another room. When she went to investigate, she was met with a horrifying scene: her son holding a handgun and her fiancé, Timothy Felts, bleeding from his chest. Felts had sustained two gunshot wounds and died at the scene. When his mother tried to intervene and question her son, Parson allegedly fired a few more shots, which did not hit anyone, before fleeing the house.
Parson's alleged violent actions did not end with the death of Timothy Felts. Authorities reported that about 12 hours later, he was in Tennessee where he allegedly shot a woman and a 2-year-old girl. His string of alleged crimes continued as he then struck a 13-year-old boy with his car while being pursued by police. After abandoning his vehicle, Parson managed to evade law enforcement on foot.
A tip from a resident in an east Knoxville neighborhood led to Parson's capture the following Monday morning. In Tennessee, he faced a litany of charges including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and two felony firearm-related charges. In connection with the death of Timothy Felts in DeKalb County, he was charged with murder and was held in police custody in Tennessee awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
