Ricky L. Bryant Jr., a 26-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on January 16, 2008, in Decatur, Georgia. Officer Bryant, along with his colleague Officer Eric Barker, was working an off-duty security detail at an apartment complex on Glenwood Road when they were alerted to a suspicious person. Upon arriving at the scene, a struggle ensued with the suspect, who managed to seize one of the officers' service weapons and opened fire, fatally wounding both officers.
