Devalon Donteletti Davis was a 20-year-old Black man whose life was tragically cut short in his hometown of Decatur, Georgia. Born on November 3, 2000, he had recently entered his twenties when he was killed.
The fatal incident occurred on January 5, 2023. That evening, on White Oak Drive, Devalon was shot multiple times. He did not survive his injuries, and his death was quickly ruled a homicide, prompting an investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators
worked the case and soon identified a suspect: 21-year-old Tyrin J. Maddox. Deputies tracked Maddox to a home on Thomasville Drive in Atlanta, where he was arrested. Law enforcement officials stated that the motive for the killing was an armed robbery. They alleged that Maddox had taken a weapon and marijuana from Devalon before shooting him.
After his capture, Tyrin Maddox was charged with murder and armed robbery in connection with Devalon's death. He was transported to the DeKalb County Jail and held without bond. While his family prepared to lay him to rest, the case against his alleged killer began its journey through the justice system. A funeral service for Devalon was held on January 17, 2023, followed by his interment at Resthaven Garden of Memory Cemetery. The case was in litigation as of January 2023.
