On August 21, 2023, Bernard Williams Jr., a 19-year-old from Decatur, Georgia, was fatally shot outside a Waffle House on Flat Shoals Road. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. as Williams waited for a ride. A witness reported that an assailant approached Williams, initiating a physical assault that escalated to pistol-whipping before culminating in a gunshot. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Williams succumbed to his injuries.
