In the early morning hours of August 21, 2023, a young man's life was tragically cut short outside a Waffle House on Flat Shoals Road in Decatur, Georgia. Bernard Williams, a 19-year-old male, was waiting for a ride at approximately 5 a.m. when he was violently attacked. The encounter escalated quickly from a physical assault to a fatal shooting.
According to a witness at the scene, an individual approached Williams and began to strike him, pistol-whipping him before firing a gun.
Williams, who had previously been employed at that same Waffle House, was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The incident was captured on the restaurant's surveillance cameras, which played a crucial role in the subsequent investigation led by the DeKalb County police.
The investigation led to the arrests of two suspects on August 24, 2023. Walter Hopson, 18, and Tyjere Bey-Robinson, 17, were taken into custody and charged with armed robbery and murder in connection with the death of Bernard Williams. Both teenagers were booked into the DeKalb County Jail.
