On June 6, 2018, 39-year-old African American male Latonian Burch was fatally shot inside his motel room at the America's Best Value Inn on Candler Road in Decatur, Georgia. At approximately 1 a.m., a woman known to Mr. Burch knocked on his door. Recognizing her as someone he had previously assisted, he opened the door.
