In the early morning hours of a late spring day in Decatur, Georgia, a dispute between two men escalated into a fatal encounter. On Monday, May 29, 2023, 52-year-old Douglas Bernard Grant, Jr. was shot and killed. The incident occurred in the 3800 block of Emerald North Drive, where DeKalb County Police were called to the scene around 3 a.m.
Upon their arrival, officers were met by a man who informed them that he and Grant had been involved in an altercation.
The disagreement had taken a tragic turn, resulting in Grant sustaining fatal gunshot wounds. The man at the scene, identified as 47-year-old Timothy Butler, was subsequently arrested in connection with the shooting.
Following his arrest, Timothy Butler was transported to the DeKalb County Jail. He was later charged with felony murder for his alleged role in the death of Douglas Grant. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly altercation is ongoing. A celebration of life for Douglas Grant was held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Crown of Glory Church International in Decatur.
