Crystal McBride, a 24-year-old mother of four, was senselessly shot and killed on the evening of June 28, 2018, in Waycross, Georgia. The tragic incident unfolded at the Garlington Heights apartment complex, where she had just returned home from work. According to her family, McBride was caught in the crossfire of a shooting that erupted outside her apartment. In a final act of maternal devotion, she was struck by a bullet as she ran to bring her child, who was still outside, to safety.
The Waycross Police Department quickly launched an investigation into what they described as a senseless murder. Their efforts led to the identification of three suspects: 31-year-old Jerell Gibson, 23-year-old Javontae Munford, and 21-year-old Walter Frazier Cobb. Within a short period, both Gibson and Munford were apprehended by law enforcement. The third suspect, Cobb, remained at large for a brief time, prompting a public appeal for information on his whereabouts. He was considered armed and dangerous.
The search for the final suspect concluded in early July 2018, when Walter Frazier Cobb was located and arrested in the Savannah, Georgia, area by the U.S. Marshals Service. Following his capture, Cobb was transported to the Ware County Jail. All three men—Jerell Gibson, Javontae Munford, and Walter Frazier Cobb—were charged with the murder of Crystal McBride.
