On the night of September 1, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Rochester Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at 156 Gilmore Street in Rochester, New York. Upon arrival, they discovered 51-year-old J.B. Blackburn lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his torso. Emergency medical services transported Blackburn to the University of Rochester Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery.
