In the early morning hours of July 28, 2024, the life of 32-year-old Alec J. Ojeda was tragically cut short. Inside a residence on Sherman Street in Rochester, New York, an altercation escalated into fatal violence. At approximately 5:30 a.m., a dispute turned deadly when a firearm was drawn and multiple shots were fired, striking Ojeda several times.
He was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify 35-year-old Timothy Patterson as the alleged shooter. A week and a half later, on August 6, 2024, U.S. Marshals located and apprehended Patterson without incident in the area of Lyell Avenue. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Patterson was arraigned in Rochester City Court the following day, where he pleaded not guilty. He is currently being held without bail at the Monroe County Jail. This was not Patterson's first encounter with the law; his criminal history includes five misdemeanor and two felony convictions. Notably, he was convicted in 2016 for criminal possession of a weapon, which resulted in a four-year prison sentence. He was released on parole in 2020 and had been discharged from parole supervision in 2023.
Alec Ojeda, born on June 4, 1992, in Geneva, New York, was remembered for his love of sports, particularly his avid support for the New York Yankees. He was a cherished son, brother, and friend who was deeply loved by his family. A memorial service to celebrate his life was held on August 14, 2024, at a funeral home in Geneva, with plans for his burial to take place in Puerto Rico. He is survived by his mother, Nilsa E. Ojeda, his sisters, Alyssa Burns and Anaelyse Cotton, and his maternal grandparents, Ada and Javier Burgos Ojeda.
