In the early morning hours of July 23, 2022, the life of 26-year-old Anthony Rosario was tragically cut short in Rochester, New York. The young, Black/African American male was attending an after-hours party at the Blackout Soul Food Restaurant on North Clinton Avenue when gunfire erupted. Responding police officers discovered Rosario with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The party was an unsanctioned event held at an establishment not
authorized for such gatherings, and a large crowd was present when the shooting occurred. The Rochester Police Department's Major Crimes Unit launched an immediate investigation into the homicide. Despite their efforts, which included interviewing witnesses and reviewing available surveillance footage, no arrests have been made in connection with Rosario's death, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have publicly urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case.
The incident prompted public outcry and raised concerns about the safety of unauthorized after-hours events, leading to the involvement of the city's law department to address the issue. Anthony Rosario was survived by his two children, Anthony Rosario Jr. and Gizelle Miracle Rosario, as well as his wife, Jashira Santiago, and a large extended family.
