In the early morning hours of July 6, 2019, Tamarco Santel Head, a 38-year-old man from Macon, was shot and killed. The fatal incident occurred around 2 a.m. in the front breezeway of Club Boss on North Davis Drive in Warner Robins, Georgia. Officers had been en route to the club to help with clearing the parking lot as people were leaving when the gunshots were fired.
Head was struck by the gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Months later, in November 2019, an arrest was made in connection with the shooting. Morgan Baker, a 23-year-old from Mobile, Alabama, was taken into custody on November 13 in his home state. He was subsequently extradited to Houston County, Georgia, on November 25 and booked into the county jail without bond. Baker was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in the death of Tamarco Head.
Baker's case went to trial, and he was convicted of murder in 2022. However, this conviction was later overturned by the Georgia Supreme Court in March 2024. The high court ruled that a 33-second rap music video, which showed Baker waving a handgun, was improperly used by prosecutors to prejudice the jury and was an abuse of the trial court's discretion. The video was filmed months before the fatal shooting.
Following the reversal of his conviction, a new trial for Morgan Baker was scheduled to begin in March 2025. On the day the trial was set to start, Baker reached a plea deal with prosecutors. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. With credit for time already served, he is expected to serve just under 11 more years in prison. Prosecutors stated that the plea was a reminder of the unjustifiable violence that can arise from disputes in nightlife settings, noting that a minor altercation escalated to deadly gunfire.
