In the autumn of 2020, the life of 25-year-old Quincy M. Malone of Anderson, Indiana, was tragically cut short. On October 29th, what was supposed to be a meeting to trade firearms turned into a scene of violence. Malone was shot in the chest at a residence on Anderson's west side. He was initially rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Quincy Mon'trell Malone, born on July 22, 1995, was a father to three children.
The investigation into the fatal shooting quickly led Anderson police to two young men from the same city, Demareyon Kemilis Robinson and Kyrell Dartez Cole. Their meeting with Malone had a fatal conclusion, and both were subsequently arrested and charged with his murder. The community was left to grapple with the senseless violence that had taken a young man's life.
Justice for Quincy Malone would be pursued through the court system. Kyrell Dartez Cole, who was 19 at the time of the shooting, faced a jury and was found guilty of murder. In July 2022, he was sentenced to a total of 75 years in prison. The sentence included 60 years for the murder conviction, with an additional 15 years added due to the use of a firearm in the commission of the crime.
Demareyon Kemilis Robinson, 20 years old at the time of the incident, also stood trial for his role in Malone's death. In September 2022, a Madison Circuit Court jury found him guilty of murder. He was subsequently sentenced to 58 years in prison. Robinson later appealed his conviction, but the Indiana Court of Appeals upheld the jury's decision, ensuring that both men responsible for the death of Quincy M. Malone would be held accountable for their actions.
