In the autumn of 1985, the life of 41-year-old Jerome 'Jerry' Glaser, a white male from Warner Robins, Georgia, took a dark and tragic turn. A well-regarded member of his community, known as a loving father and husband, Glaser became the target of a sinister plot that would ultimately end in his death. The architect of this scheme was not a stranger, but his own wife, Dorothy Glaser.
The horrifying chain of events began in early October 1985, when an attempt on Jerry's life was made.
Dorothy had hired a hitman to kill her husband, but the attempt failed, leaving Jerry with a non-fatal gunshot wound. This incident plunged him into a state of intense paranoia and fear. Convinced that someone was actively trying to kill him, he began carrying a handgun for protection and his mental health steadily declined.
On Halloween night of that same year, the plot reached its grim conclusion. Inside their Warner Robins home, Dorothy shot and killed her husband. Initially, she claimed the shooting was a tragic accident, a life-and-death struggle over the firearm. However, the forensic evidence told a different story. The angle of the gunshot wound and the absence of gunpowder residue on Jerry's body contradicted her account of a close-range struggle, leading investigators to rule his death a homicide.
For a time, it seemed as though Dorothy might escape justice. A coroner's inquest, prompted by her, ruled the death accidental. This allowed her to collect on a substantial life insurance policy. However, her greed would be her undoing. Years later, she was implicated in a plot to murder her brother-in-law. A family member, Bobby Spargo, whom she tried to involve, went to the police, revealing her murderous intentions. This new investigation shed light on the cold-blooded nature of Jerry's death.
The renewed investigation into Jerome Glaser's murder led to Dorothy's arrest. During the subsequent legal proceedings, the full extent of her deceit was laid bare. In August of 1993, Dorothy Glaser was convicted of the malice murder of her husband and the earlier attempted murder. She received a life sentence for the murder, with an additional ten years for the failed assassination attempt, finally bringing a close to a case that had begun with a husband's fear and ended with a wife's ultimate betrayal.
