In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 1, 2019, the life of a young Macon man was tragically cut short. Twenty-three-year-old Eric Broomfield was discovered in his 2003 GMC in an alleyway off of Winton Avenue, having been shot multiple times. The Bibb County Sheriff's Office received a call about a person down at approximately 7:40 a.m. and, upon their arrival, deputies found Broomfield deceased inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Eric Vincent Broomfield, Jr. continued for over a month. Friends and family mourned the loss of the young man, who was remembered in an obituary published on December 6, 2019. The community was left searching for answers as authorities worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
A breakthrough in the case came on Friday, January 24, 2020, when the Bibb County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of two suspects. Acting on a tip, investigators apprehended 26-year-old Noel Latonia Adams at a residence on Brentwood Drive and 54-year-old Frank James Tolbert in the 1200 block of Winton Avenue, the same area where Broomfield's body was discovered. Both Adams and Tolbert were taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder. They were booked into the Bibb County jail and held without bond.
