In the late hours of a Wednesday in Macon, Georgia, a simmering argument erupted into deadly violence, claiming the life of 43-year-old Trerico Kenyon Thomas. On May 3, 2023, Bibb County deputies responded to a call of a person shot in the 2400 block of Greenwood Terrace, where they found Thomas unresponsive in the roadway. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the deputy coroner. Thomas was a Black male.
The investigation that followed painted a picture of a dispute that escalated with tragic consequences. An altercation had reportedly broken out in front of a residence, drawing the attention of 21-year-old Destiny Olivia Barry. Though not directly involved in the initial argument, Barry is said to have retrieved a firearm and shot Thomas. Another man, 33-year-old Joshua Franklin Polk, was also implicated in the shooting. Surveillance footage reportedly showed a woman handing a gun to Polk before shots were fired.
Investigators later found Thomas inside his car.
The day after the shooting, on May 4, 2023, Destiny Olivia Barry was arrested and charged with murder. She was taken into custody and held at the Bibb County jail without bond. Her charges were later specified to include malice murder and felony murder. A little over two weeks later, on May 18, authorities made two more arrests in connection with Thomas's death. Joshua Franklin Polk was apprehended and charged with murder, while 30-year-old Amanda Nicole Murray was charged with hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal. Polk, who was considered armed and dangerous and had an outstanding warrant from another county, was also held without bond.
