In the late afternoon of a summer Sunday, a dispute inside the food court of the Macon Mall would end in the tragic death of 17-year-old Quentavious Moore. On August 1, 2021, an argument between two men escalated into a physical altercation, culminating in gunfire that echoed through the mall shortly after 4 p.m. Moore sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The ensuing investigation by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office revealed a complex and tragic series of events. According to reports and mall surveillance footage, the altercation that led to the fatal shooting involved an attempt to retrieve a stolen firearm. Investigators determined that during the struggle, Moore was shot with his own handgun. This finding led to a startling development in the case several months later.
In December 2021, after consultation with the District Attorney's Office, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office made an unexpected arrest. Quentavious Moore's own brother, 19-year-old Kowasis Quentrell Moore, was taken into custody and charged with felony murder and armed robbery in connection with the death. The investigation did not stop there. The following day, a second suspect, 17-year-old Ken'ya Quintae Carter, was also arrested and faced charges of felony murder and armed robbery for his involvement in the fatal encounter. Authorities indicated that additional arrests were pending as they continued to delve into the circumstances surrounding the death of the young man.
