In the spring of 2022, the life of 16-year-old Kymelo Early was tragically cut short in a parking lot in Macon, Georgia. On the evening of May 9th, Kymelo was with a group of males at a Friends Food Mart on Houston Avenue when a single gunshot ended his life. He was rushed to Atrium Health Navicent where, despite the efforts of medical professionals, he was pronounced dead shortly before 9 p.m.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to an arrest.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office identified 21-year-old Ja'Kobe Archie as the individual responsible for the fatal shot. The incident was described as unintentional, with reports indicating that Archie was playing with a firearm while in the driver's seat of his car when it discharged, striking Kymelo in the face. The two were reportedly childhood friends who grew up in the same neighborhood.
Following the investigation, Ja'Kobe Archie was taken into custody and charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Kymelo Early's death. The tragic event left both families devastated, with Kymelo's parents mourning the loss of their son, who was remembered as an active teen with a warm spirit, and Archie's family grappling with the consequences of what was deemed a senseless act.
