In the winter of 2022, a life was tragically cut short in Macon, Georgia. On the evening of Saturday, December 10th, authorities were called to a residence on Gordon Street following reports of a shooting. Inside the home, they discovered 29-year-old Demonta Steve Clyde, a male, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The event marked another grim statistic for the city, becoming its 67th homicide of the year.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to a person of interest. Within hours, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office had a suspect in their sights. Before 11:00 p.m. that same night, patrol deputies located and apprehended 20-year-old Keondre Jonquez at a home on Bailey Avenue. A warrant had already been issued for his arrest in connection with the fatal shooting. The subsequent investigation revealed a familial connection between the two men; Keondre Jonquez and Demonta Steve Clyde were cousins.
Following his arrest, Keondre Jonquez was charged with murder for his alleged role in his cousin's death. He was subsequently taken to the Bibb County Enforcement Center, where he was held without bond. While an arrest was made swiftly, the circumstances that led to the tragic shooting remained under investigation by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. Authorities urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist in piecing together the events of that fatal Saturday night.
