In the summer of 2018, the life of 18-year-old DaKwaun Tyre Faulks was tragically cut short on the evening of August 19th in Macon, Georgia. The young man, a male, had been released from jail just a day prior on aggravated assault charges. Reports from his grandmother indicate that he had left his home to play basketball.
Later that evening, deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office were called to the Navicent Health Medical Center after a person arrived with a gunshot wound.
This individual was identified as DaKwaun Tyre Faulks, who had been shot in the left side of his back. Despite medical attention, Faulks succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by the hospital staff. It was later reported that he was brought to the hospital in a private vehicle.
The investigation into Faulks's death quickly led to the identification of two suspects. The following day, on August 20, 2018, the Bibb County Sheriff's Investigators arrested 18-year-old Dawan Jasentay Daniels Jr. and 17-year-old Zontravion Keontae Hernandez, both from Macon. According to witness statements, Faulks and Daniels had been involved in a confrontation with Hernandez, during which gunfire was exchanged, and Faulks was fatally wounded. In an unusual turn of events, it was revealed that Dawan Daniels Jr., one of the individuals charged in his death, was the person who drove Faulks to the hospital after the shooting, which was said to have occurred at a block party near Burton Avenue and Winifred Way. Both Daniels and Hernandez were subsequently charged with murder.
In March 2022, Dawan Jasentay Daniels Jr. pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of DaKwaun Tyre Faulks. A Bibb County Superior Court Judge sentenced him to 20 years in prison for his role in the incident. The legal proceedings for Zontravion Keontae Hernandez in direct relation to Faulks's death are not as clearly detailed in available sources. However, it is known that Hernandez was later convicted of murder in a separate 2021 case and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
