Sheldon “Jabo/ET” Morris, a 51-year-old Black male, was killed on March 16, 2020, in southwest Atlanta, where police found him with a gunshot wound to the head in the 200 block of Thornton Street SW, near 211 Thornton St. Reports said the shooting was discovered around 7 p.m., and medics pronounced him dead at the scene. What began as a homicide investigation unfolded in a way that made the case immediately stand out: while detectives were still working the scene, a man approached them and
identified himself as the shooter.
That man was identified by police as Ricky Nelson Davis, 53, of Atlanta. According to the reporting available online, Davis was detained, questioned, and then charged with murder in Morris’s death. Accounts of the case say he was booked into the Fulton County Jail and held without bond. The public reporting also described Davis as someone who had been in and out of prison since the late 1980s and said he was on probation at the time of the shooting because of earlier Fulton County felony convictions, including aggravated assault, first-degree criminal damage to property, and firearm-related charges from a 2016 case.
The picture left by the available online sources is of a killing that moved from mystery to arrest almost in the same breath, with police no longer searching for an unknown gunman because the suspect came back to the scene himself. Even so, the motive was not publicly released in the reporting tied to the case. In the sources I found online, there is clear documentation of the arrest and murder charge against Davis, but I did not find a reliable public online source confirming a later trial result or conviction in Morris’s case.
