Scott Hull, a 37-year-old Black man from Atlanta, was killed on December 26, 2016, in a shooting at the Brentwood Village Apartments on Alison Court in southwest Atlanta. In the early hours after Christmas, police were sent to the complex after reports of gunfire, and when officers arrived they found Hull dead from gunshot wounds. The medical examiner later identified him, and early coverage described investigators moving through the apartment complex for hours, trying to piece together what
had happened in the darkness before dawn.
What made the case especially haunting was how little seemed settled in those first reports. Investigators were still working to determine exactly how the shooting unfolded, and public reporting at the time did not name any suspect. Accounts of the scene said there were no obvious signs of a struggle, leaving open the question of whether Hull had known the person who killed him or whether the violence erupted suddenly and without warning. The picture that emerged was of a life cut short in a residential complex while police were left chasing fragments of evidence instead of a clear trail.
Years later, the case was still being counted among Atlanta’s unsolved homicides from 2016. Available reporting located online does not show any arrest, identified suspect, indictment, or conviction in Hull’s killing, and the later coverage that revisited the city’s unsolved cases continued to include his name on that list. That leaves the public record, at least in the sources reviewed here, with the same stark outline it had from the beginning: Scott Hull was shot to death in southwest Atlanta, and the person responsible had not been publicly brought to justice in the reporting that followed.
