The Fourth of July holiday in 2021 was shattered by violence in Statesboro, Georgia, when a triple homicide claimed the lives of Travis Sneed, a 37-year-old Black man; his sister, Brittany Sneed Mack, 35; and his girlfriend, Kristina Soles, 37. The tragedy unfolded that evening at Lundy's Trailer Park, where Brittany lived with her young son. Travis was staying with her for the weekend, accompanied by his own daughter, and Kristina was visiting with her daughter.
Around 7 p.m., a
neighbor called 911 after hearing what sounded like gunshots amid the holiday fireworks. When deputies from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they found Brittany Sneed Mack on the back porch of her residence with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead while being transported to a hospital. Members of the Sheriff’s Office and the Statesboro Police Department’s Special Response Teams then entered the home, where they discovered the bodies of Travis Sneed and Kristina Soles. A subsequent autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that all three victims had died from multiple gunshot wounds in what was ruled a homicide.
The investigation led authorities to a suspect nearly two months later. Investigators learned that Rolando Millan, who was 16 at the time of the killings, was being held at the Augusta Youth Development Campus on unrelated charges. Millan, who was from East Point but had been living with relatives in Statesboro, was charged with three counts of felony murder. The Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney's office announced its intention to try him as an adult.
A grand jury later indicted Millan on multiple counts, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children, as the shootings had occurred in the presence of three children under the age of 18. In November 2023, the case went to trial in Bulloch County Superior Court. After deliberating for about two hours, the jury found Millan, then 18, guilty on all charges.
Following the verdict, the victims' mother, Helen Sneed, gave an emotional statement to the court. The judge then sentenced Rolando Millan to life in prison without the possibility of parole. An additional five consecutive years were added for the conviction of possessing a firearm while committing a felony. The case was officially closed with the sentencing in November 2023.
