On an autumn evening in Augusta, Georgia, a dispute outside a local restaurant escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of Ashaad Truitt, a 31-year-old African American male. The incident, which unfolded on October 29, 2021, outside the Red Crab restaurant on Peach Orchard Road, also resulted in injury to a 28-year-old woman who was shot in the leg. Reports indicate that a physical altercation among several individuals preceded the gunfire.
Truitt was struck by at least one bullet and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify 24-year-old Ray Terell Streetman as a suspect. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. In connection with the fatal shooting, law enforcement also sought to question another individual, Albert Jennings, who was believed to be driving a newer model silver Ford Mustang and was known to frequent the areas of Wylds Road and Waynesboro.
Following his arrest for the murder of Ashaad Truitt, Streetman was released on bond due to delays in his trial. His time out of custody was marked by further encounters with the law, including arrests for DUI and speeding in Richmond County. In a separate and more recent incident in October 2024, Streetman was shot by Burke County deputies. Authorities reported that he was attempting to strike officers with his vehicle as they were dispersing a large party. In that case, he faced charges of aggravated assault on a police officer and fleeing law enforcement.
