In the fall of 2021, the life of 58-year-old Awanda Thomas was tragically cut short in her Augusta, Georgia home. An African American woman, Thomas was found deceased on November 2, 2021, having suffered a brutal attack that included severe blunt force trauma and a gunshot wound to her head. The horrifying discovery at her Martin Road residence sent shockwaves through the community, not only for the violence of the act but also because of the identity of the person responsible.
