In the early morning hours of March 1, 2025, the community of Augusta, Georgia, was shaken by the tragic death of Yolanda Renee Epps, a 45-year-old African American woman. The incident unfolded at the Cedarwood Apartments located on Richmond Hill Road West, where Richmond County sheriff's deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 3 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Epps suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body.
She was quickly transported to Wellstar MCG Health, but tragically, she was pronounced dead at 6:44 a.m.
The investigation into the shooting led to the swift arrest of a suspect, 26-year-old Keondra McBride, who resided in the same apartment complex as Epps. Authorities charged McBride with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. She was subsequently taken into custody and booked at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. While an arrest was made, the motive behind the fatal shooting remained unclear to investigators in the immediate aftermath.
Yolanda Renee Epps was a beloved member of her community, known for her active involvement in her church and local music groups. Originally from Bamberg, South Carolina, she had attended Bamberg Ehrhardt High School and furthered her education at Denmark Technical College. Her death left a void in the lives of her family and friends. An autopsy was scheduled to provide further details regarding her death.
