In a tragic turn of events stemming from a domestic dispute, 57-year-old James Kenneth Avera, a White / Caucasian male, died on December 4, 2017, in his Augusta, Georgia, home. The incident, which unfolded on Karian Drive, was the result of a murder-suicide attempt that left Avera dead and a woman who resided with him critically injured.
Authorities reported that Avera shot the woman before turning the gun on himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:15 a.m.
from at least one gunshot wound. The female victim was rushed to Augusta University Medical Center for treatment of her injuries and survived the attack.
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office and the coroner's office investigated the case. Avera's body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Lab for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
