James Kenneth Avera, a 57-year-old white male from Augusta, GA, was found dead on December 4, 2017, in what authorities described as a botched murder-suicide attempt. The incident occurred at his residence on Karian Drive. According to reports, Avera was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:15 a.m. after being shot at least once. An unidentified woman, who lived with Avera, was also critically injured in the shooting and was rushed to Augusta University Medical Center for treatment.
