In the fading light of a February evening in 2012, a dispute between two men in a St. Louis alley escalated into a fatal encounter. Darryl Winston, a 55-year-old man, was discovered shortly after, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
