In a harrowing turn of events that began with threats on social media, Corey Myers, a 46-year-old man, was shot and killed in his Austell, Georgia, apartment on June 7, 2022. The tragic incident unfolded as a home invasion at the Birch Landing Apartments. At the time of the break-in, Myers was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher, whispering for help and indicating that he had a gun. Moments later, the line captured the terrifying sound of his door being kicked in, followed by a gunshot. Myers was able to tell the dispatcher he had been shot in the chest before he was rushed to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Myers's death led authorities on an extensive search for the individuals responsible, with leads stretching far beyond their usual jurisdiction to several other states, including New Jersey, Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee, Florida, and North Carolina. Over a period of more than a year, investigators pieced together the evidence that would lead to the arrests of four men in connection with the murder. The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Christian Jeriel Dejerinett, 22-year-old Keyako Elijah Enrique Moore, 21-year-old Jermonie Taj Suttles, and 46-year-old Dion Eric Williams. The charges brought against them included aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary in the first degree, and two counts of murder.
The motive behind the violent home invasion and subsequent murder appears to have stemmed from a dispute over money. Investigators uncovered Facebook and text messages between Williams and Myers in which Williams accused Myers of stealing drug money and issued a chilling threat, stating that Myers would be the last person he would ever steal from and that he would show him his 'reach.' Further messages revealed that Williams had sent Myers's address to Dejerinett and had informed Myers that they were on their way. Cell phone location data played a crucial role in the investigation, confirming the presence of Moore, Dejerinett, and Suttles in the vicinity of Myers's apartment at the time of the murder.
In February 2025, a Douglas County jury found Christian Dejerinett, Jermonie Suttles, and Dion Williams guilty on all counts, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, home invasion, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The fourth suspect, Keyako Moore, who was accused of driving the getaway car, had previously pleaded guilty to home invasion in November of the preceding year. Following their conviction, the three men were sentenced for their roles in the tragic and senseless death of Corey Myers.
