In the winter of 2017, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening quiet at an Austell, Georgia, apartment complex, leaving two men fatally wounded. One of the victims was 26-year-old Deandre Brooks, a male from Montgomery, Alabama. The tragic incident unfolded on a Wednesday night at the Windwood Apartments, where first responders were already on the scene for an unrelated matter, assisting with a child locked in a car.
Brooks, along with 28-year-old Roderick Foster, was discovered with gunshot wounds. Both men were rushed to a nearby hospital, but their injuries proved to be too severe, and they succumbed to them shortly after. The shooting, which was described as a shootout, was reportedly one of several violent incidents at the apartment complex in the months leading up to the double homicide.
The investigation into the deaths of Brooks and Foster quickly led to a suspect. Broderick Taylor, a 26-year-old from Atlanta, was arrested and faced a litany of charges, including two counts of felony murder and two counts of felony aggravated assault. Taylor was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Following his arrest, he was held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
