In the early morning hours of July 11, 2022, a tragic shooting shattered the quiet of the Premier Apartments in Austell, Georgia. Inside one of the units, officers would discover a scene of violence that left two people dead and another critically injured. One of the deceased was 27-year-old Jeremy Davis, a man from Carrollton. Also killed in the attack was 24-year-old Lena Wolfe of Austell.
A third victim, 36-year-old Yolanda Spiller, also from Austell, was found with a gunshot wound and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Investigators arriving at the apartment at 400 Westwood Place noted that there were no signs of forced entry, leaving the motive behind the violent outburst a troubling question for both law enforcement and the victims' grieving families. The community was left shaken, and a vigil was held the following day where friends and family gathered to mourn the sudden and senseless loss of Davis and Wolfe, holding signs and praying together.
Within a day of the shooting, authorities made an arrest in the case. Lester Piercefield was taken into custody on Tuesday with the assistance of the Paulding County SWAT team. Cobb County police, along with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, apprehended Piercefield, who was then expected to be booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. While an arrest was made, the specific charges against Piercefield were not immediately disclosed to the public, and the motive for the deadly shooting remained unclear.
