In the summer of what should have been the prelude to his eighth-grade year, 13-year-old DeSiyah Reed, a male from Douglas County, was spending time with friends at an apartment complex on Padgett Drive in Austell, Georgia. On July 21, 2025, while visiting family and friends, his life was irrevocably altered. A dispute between rival street gangs erupted in gunfire, and DeSiyah, an innocent bystander, was caught in the crossfire, struck by a stray bullet to the head.
