On a Tuesday evening in July 2022, Anatoli Zanabe, a 44-year-old male, was working as a clerk at the Quick Pick Food Mart on Welcome All Road in South Fulton, Georgia. His shift took a tragic turn when two masked men entered the convenience store with the intent to rob it. The armed assailants demanded money and cigarettes from Zanabe.
A witness who walked in during the robbery recalled the gunmen shouting at Zanabe to open the door to get behind the counter.
She stated that Zanabe complied with their demands, handing over everything they asked for. Despite his cooperation, the situation escalated dramatically. For reasons that remain unclear, one of the robbers shot Zanabe multiple times. The witness recounted hearing approximately eight gunshots before she dropped to the floor in fear for her own life. The suspects then fled the scene.
When law enforcement arrived, they found Zanabe suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The senseless killing devastated his family, including his brother-in-law and the store's owner, Sayed Buhari, who tearfully questioned why the robbers had to take his loved one's life. The family affectionately knew him as Tony.
Investigators quickly determined that the same two men had robbed a Dollar General store nearby shortly before the fatal incident at the Quick Pick. Through their investigation, police identified Alantae Richardson and Antwon Warthen as the suspects. Both men were eventually apprehended and faced legal proceedings for their roles in the violent crime spree. In August 2024, a jury found both Richardson and Warthen guilty of the shooting and killing of Anatoli Zanabe, bringing a measure of justice to his grieving family and community.
