The incident, which authorities have described as a road rage encounter, unfolded on the evening of Monday, December 19, 2022, in the parking lot of Will Henry's Tavern on Rockbridge Road, where Johnson was a beloved night manager. Known for his kindness and for looking out for everyone, his sudden death sent shockwaves through the community and left his family and friends heartbroken. That evening, an argument broke out between Johnson, who was in his vehicle, and a man on a bicycle. The dispute escalated, and the man on the bicycle pulled out a firearm and shot Johnson. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Gwinnett County Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the shooting.
