In the early evening of January 28, 2016, a day that began like any other, 20-year-old Timothy Hurston’s life was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence at a Citgo gas station near Stone Mountain, Georgia. Hurston was a passenger in a green Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by a woman who was also accompanied by another passenger. An assailant, later identified as 26-year-old Terrance Stradford of Stone Mountain, approached the driver's side of the vehicle and demanded she exit and
surrender her belongings.
Reacting quickly, the driver sped away from the scene. It was in this frantic escape that multiple gunshots were fired at the departing car. One of these bullets struck Timothy Hurston in the back. The driver, realizing Hurston had been shot, rushed him to the nearest medical facility, Emory University Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital. Upon their arrival, the car was riddled with bullet holes on the driver's side. Despite the efforts of those who rendered aid at the hospital, Hurston succumbed to his injuries. The other passenger in the vehicle was unharmed.
In the weeks following the shooting, law enforcement officials worked to identify and apprehend the person responsible for Timothy Hurston's death. Their investigation led them to Terrance Stradford. A warrant for his arrest was issued, and on February 17, 2016, Stradford was taken into custody at the Evergreen hotel. He was subsequently charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Timothy Hurston.
