On March 7, 2025, 23-year-old white male Kyle Allen Thrasher of Janesville, Wisconsin, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a BP gas station on County Highway N in the town of Pleasant Springs, Dane County. The incident occurred just after midnight, and Kyle was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities reported that the shooting was not a random act but rather a pre-arranged meeting that ended in a robbery and subsequent shooting while Kyle was defenseless in his car.
Investigators identified two suspects: 18-year-old Creed D. Moore and 24-year-old Duane R. Johnson. Moore was arrested on March 14 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Johnson was apprehended on March 17 in Riverdale, Georgia. Both suspects are from Wisconsin and were taken into custody without incident. Moore faces charges including first-degree intentional homicide, armed robbery, endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, and felon in possession of a firearm. Johnson is charged with felony murder and armed robbery. Both are to be extradited to Dane County to face these charges.
Kyle Thrasher was remembered by his family as a beloved brother, uncle, friend, and son. He had a passion for cars, fishing, and fitness, and was working towards becoming a steam fitter. He was employed as an ironworker with the local union. His sister, Breanna Franks, organized a fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses, highlighting the unexpected nature of his passing and the financial burden it placed on the family.
