On the evening of Halloween in 2017, a dispute at a gas station in Stone Mountain, Georgia, escalated into a fatal encounter for Lawrence Kenneth Allison, a 32-year-old Black male. The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. at a Chevron located on the 4700 block of Redan Road, a setting that would become a scene of violence and loss.
Witnesses reported that Allison was engaged in an argument with another man.
The disagreement took a deadly turn when the other individual pulled out a firearm and shot Allison in the chest. As Allison fell between the gas pumps, his assailant, described as a man wearing a black hoodie, black shorts, and black shoes, fled the scene on foot. In a chaotic turn of events, a third person who was present at the scene began firing at the fleeing suspect, though it remains unclear if the gunman was hit.
DeKalb County police arrived to find a grim scene, with fifteen shell casings scattered near Allison's body. They immediately began an investigation, canvassing the area for the suspect and reviewing surveillance footage from the gas station in the hopes of identifying the shooter. Despite these efforts and the witness accounts, the man in the black hoodie vanished into the night.
