Edward Chadmon, a 24-year-old aspiring rapper known as E-Thugga, was fatally shot on July 3, 2015, in a Stone Mountain, Georgia, motel room. His death was part of a violent crime spree carried out by members of the Gangster Disciples street gang. On that day, several armed men went to the Stone Mountain Inn with the intention of committing a robbery.
During the attempted robbery, Chadmon was shot and killed. Court records indicate that he died while trying to defend himself.
His death was one of several violent acts committed by the gang members over a short period. Though he sometimes projected a tough image in online photos, friends and family remembered a different side of him, and he was pictured on social media holding his young daughter.
Following an extensive investigation into a series of gang-related crimes, authorities arrested and charged several individuals. Two members of a Gangster Disciples subset called the Hate Committee, Joseph Broxton and Daniel Pena, were tried and convicted for their roles in the crime spree, which included the murder of Edward Chadmon and others. The prosecution detailed how the gang members were ordered to find and harm individuals they deemed 'violators' of the gang's rules.
In June 2017, Joseph Broxton and Daniel Pena were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for their convictions on multiple counts of murder, aggravated assault, and other charges related to the violent rampage. The convictions brought a measure of closure to the series of brutal crimes that had impacted the DeKalb County community.
