Melvin E. Hopkins, a 39-year-old police officer with the New York City Police Department, tragically lost his life on September 15, 1979. Officer Hopkins was off duty and waiting in front of a liquor store owned by his uncle in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn.
