Ronald Hearn, a 49-year-old police officer with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Police Services, tragically lost his life on July 25, 1988, in New York City. Officer Hearn was on duty at the Bronx VA Hospital, working the metal detector, when the incident occurred. As a man walked through the metal detector, the alarm was triggered.
