Sarecho "Sammy the Arab" Nalo was a notable figure in the New York City underworld, particularly involved in illegal gambling operations. On October 25, 1988, Nalo was murdered while on the phone with Spyredon "Spiro the Greek" Velentzas, a prominent leader of the Velentzas Organization, a Greek-American criminal group.
