In the early morning hours of October 13, 1991, Michael Zarabi, a 27-year-old male, was tragically killed in a violent rampage in Queens, New York. The incident unfolded at a residence where Zarabi was present with several other individuals. The man responsible for the attack was Andrew Brooks Jr., a man known in the neighborhood for his erratic behavior.
Using a shotgun, Brooks carried out a brutal assault that resulted in the deaths of four men.
Along with Michael Zarabi, the victims included Brooks' own father, Andrew Brooks Sr., Brian Ducker, and Daniel Gantovnik. Two other men, Stanley Sultan and Andrew Lazan, were also shot and critically wounded but ultimately survived the attack. The bodies of Brooks' father and Brian Ducker were discovered in a shed behind the main house, suggesting they may have been killed at an earlier time.
Following the murders, Brooks fled the scene and his violent spree continued. He made his way to a nearby home in Great Neck, Long Island, where he took a married couple hostage. A tense standoff with law enforcement ensued for several hours. During the standoff, Brooks occasionally fired his weapon at the police who had surrounded the residence. Eventually, the male hostage was released, and his wife managed to escape unharmed. The confrontation came to a grim conclusion when Brooks took his own life with the same shotgun he had used in the killings. As the sole perpetrator was deceased, there were no subsequent arrests or a trial in connection with the deaths.
