In the pre-dawn hours of April 2, 2023, the quiet neighborhood of Maspeth in Queens, New York, was disturbed by a sudden act of violence that claimed the life of 44-year-old Emanuel Pippis. A White / Caucasian male, Pippis was walking near his home when the fatal encounter occurred. The incident took place at approximately 3:50 a.m. just outside the Paraguayan Steakhouse on 65th Place, only a few steps from his own front door.
Without warning, an unknown assailant approached him from
behind and fired a single shot to the back of his head. Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to a 911 call and discovered Pippis unconscious on the sidewalk. Emergency medical services arrived at the scene but were unable to save him; he was pronounced dead right where he had fallen.
The investigation into the death of Emanuel Pippis was launched immediately, with homicide detectives examining the crime scene for evidence. A single spent round was recovered. Despite their efforts, authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects in the case, and a motive for the shooting remains unclear.
