In the quiet community of Fenton, Missouri, a tragic event unfolded on the morning of October 9, 2014, leaving two people dead in what was determined to be a murder-suicide. St. Louis County Police were called to a home on Rockshire Drive around 6:05 a.m. for a shooting report. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the bodies of 81-year-old James Roesslein, a male, and 77-year-old Patsy Roesslein in the living room of the residence.
Subsequent investigation by the St.
Louis County Crimes Against Persons unit revealed that the deceased were husband and wife. The evidence collected at the scene led detectives to conclude that James Roesslein shot his wife, Patsy, before turning the gun on himself. No other individuals were believed to be involved in the incident, and the case was closed as a murder-suicide.
The couple, James and Patsy Roesslein, had a daughter and were preceded in death by a son. They also had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The motive behind the tragic actions of James Roesslein was not publicly released. As the sole perpetrator, James Roesslein died at the scene, and therefore no arrests were made in connection with the death of Patsy Roesslein.
