On a tragic day in the Bronx, a horrific act of violence cut short the life of 14-year-old Ricky Gonzales. The Hispanic male was inside the Little Chester Shoe Store on December 19, 1995, with his mother, Maria Carrasquillo, and his 12-year-old brother, Rafael Gonzalez, when a gunman entered the store. The shooter, identified as 22-year-old Michael Vernon, opened fire, killing all three members of the Gonzalez family, as well as two other individuals in the store.
