In the Bronx, a dispute escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of 34-year-old Michael Mendez. On the evening of April 23, 2024, an argument reportedly broke out among individuals near a bus parked on Morris Avenue and East Fordham Road. The confrontation spilled onto the street, where gunfire erupted.
Responding to a 911 call and a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 9:49 p.m., police discovered two men with gunshot wounds in front of 2449 Morris Avenue.
Michael Mendez, a resident of the Bronx, had been shot in the stomach and armpit. A 38-year-old man was also found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds to his body.
Both men were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital for treatment. Tragically, Michael Mendez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim was listed in critical condition. At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, and the investigation was ongoing.
