In the early morning hours of January 22, 2015, Faustino Hernandez, a 61-year-old Hispanic man, was setting up his fruit truck near the Hunts Point Market in the Bronx, a routine he had performed for years. A hardworking fruit vendor, he was a familiar and well-liked figure in the bustling market area. Tragically, on this particular morning, his life was cut short in a sudden act of violence.
